Restorative Dentistry

It is recommended to bring your child to the dentist when they turn one or when their first tooth erupts. This allows your dentist to track their oral health from an early age and familiarizes your child with the process of going to the dentist to minimize dental anxiety. But don’t worry, if you haven’t brought your child in yet, the best time to start is now! At Miles of Little Smiles, we accept children of all ages in Westchester and White Plains. We offer a full suite of preventive treatments that will help keep little smiles bright and healthy. Our team is skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to providing thoughtful, gentle, and engaging dental care.

Restore Your Child’s Cavities with Composite (Tooth Colored) Fillings

Cavities are the #1 most common preventable childhood disease. Even with proper oral hygiene and care, there’s always a possibility that your little one may get a cavity. When this happens, the best option for restoring their teeth and removing the cavity is to choose a composite filling.

Dr. Belgrade or Dr. Chazbani will numb your child’s mouth, then remove the damaged tooth material with a dental drill. Then, she will replace it with a composite filling material that matches their teeth perfectly, and restore and reshape the tooth. This eliminates the cavity, and restores your little one’s smile!

At our White Plains office, we exclusively uses composite tooth-colored fillings instead of metal fillings. Composite fillings match the color of your child’s teeth, provide a durable hold, and require the removal of less enamel during treatment.

Repair Damaged Kid’s Teeth with Dental Crowns

Dental crowns for kids are often required to restore a tooth that has become seriously decayed or has broken due to oral trauma like a slip and fall. Crowns are shaped just like your child’s natural tooth and are intended to cover up the remaining enamel completely, protecting the tooth from further damage.

Dr. Belgrade or Dr. Chazbani will numb your child’s mouth and trim their tooth. Then, she will take impressions and images of their mouth, and send them to a dental lab. Your child will get a temporary crown to protect their newly-trimmed tooth. Then, in a few weeks, you will come back and your child’s permanent crown will be bonded to their tooth, completing the procedure.

Restore Infected Teeth with Root Canal Therapy

A pulpotomy, or baby root canal, is used to treat infected teeth. If your child’s tooth is cracked or damaged, the nerve and blood vessel-filled pulp below the tooth may become infected, causing pain and discomfort. Eventually, this will result in the death of the tooth without proper intervention. Root canal therapy is used to remove the infection and restore the tooth, preventing it from further deterioration.

This treatment involves removing damaged enamel with a dental drill, then opening up a small hole in the tooth, and removing the infected material with special dental tools. Then, Dr. Belgrade or Dr. Chazbani will disinfect the tooth, and restore it with a rubber-like material and a filling or a temporary dental crown. In some cases, your child may need to come back to our White Plains practice to have a permanent crown fitted. For restorative dental care for kids in Westchester or White Plains, contact us today!
